The audio signal is captured directly by an electret microphone, and the input sensitivity can be smoothly adjusted using a trimmer potentiometer. The indicator is linear and uses 12 LEDs to display the sound level.
The device operates from a DC supply voltage in the range of 12 to 15 V and can also be powered from a car battery. The main PCB dimensions are 104 x 36 mm, while the microphone preamplifier PCB measures 31 x 22 mm.
